My final destination in Botswana 2010 was the Xaranna Okavango Delta Camp. Not long after landing, we encountered a huge bull elephant old and scarred. This bull elephant was well known by the guides who told us his story. He was the head of a herd of females for many years before he was seen off by a challenger. Exiled, he was then left to roam on his own occasionally joining with a bachelor herd (made up of other exiled males).
I took a few photos of this male, scarred and rugged as he was I couldn’t help but feel touched by his story and felt the photo of him walking away best captured his solitude.
